It’s about gone, kids. 2011. All done.

2011 has been a serious roller coaster for me professionally and personally. It seems like it was just yesterday when I was updating the 2010 end of the year list!

Golly.

Drinking Buddy of the Year: Brandon…again

When you’re unemployed for most of the year, who else would be your drinking buddy but your husband! Brandon has returned to claim the title since he got it in 2009. This year, the mister also started to try wine, so we’ve had a little more fun with that. Speaking of wine…

Bar of the Year: District Wine, Long Beach

I was introduced to District Wine by USC Alumni Club of Long Beach. The club has many mixers hosted here and the board congregates here for the board meeting for bottlomless mimosas on a Sunday. Elegant but cozy place with friendliest of staff can be really mellow some nights and lively on others.

With a variety of wine by the glass and very reasonably priced by the bottle and delicious nosh, if this place was around the corner from my house, I would certainly haunt it. I like District Wine so much when I was contacted by Ghirardelli to host the Intense Dark chocolate and wine pairing event, I didn’t even try calling anywhere else but here.

I’m looking forward to many, many more good times!

Restaurant of the Year: Vino e Cucina, Long Beach

My friend Brenda introduced me to Vino e Cucina a few years back. It was REAL Italian food, owned and operated by Italian family. I totally loved the food there since the very first bite, but I couldn’t get Brandon through the door for the longest time. You see, the first time we popped in was a Friday night when they were still in the one store. With no reservation, they couldn’t seat anyone. B didn’t like that too much.

Since then they had expanded into the neighboring storefronts, and I finally convinced Brandon to come order a to-go dinner on a weeknight. The food proved itself worthy. And now we eat there about once every other month.

Newcomer Award: Saatchi LA Peeps

“But Oakley, you only worked there for 4 months! How could you be so attached to these people?”

When you find a work environment you like, meet the people you adore, and get a sense of a company culture that fits you like a glove, you can’t help yourself feeling like you’ve always worked there. I feel like I belong there more than any other place I’ve worked at before (maybe except HSX.com). I’ve met great people and created some awesome memories in my short time here. This will not be soon forgotten.

Oh, and again, thanks, Matt.

High point of the Year: New Zealand Trip

Fresh off the layoff, the trip was the perfect springboard into the new adventure. It was a carefree trip. We ate a lot. We walked a lot. Then we drove a LOT but we also saw a lot along the way. We nerded out with Lord of the Rings sites. We drank plenty of wine and guzzled enough local beer. We took a million pictures (and I haven’t uploaded them all yet).

It was great seeing my dad and getting him out traveling even on a very limited schedule. My mom had always wanted to visit New Zealand. In a way, we were taking this trip for her as well.

The best, though, is that my dad and I reunited with my cousins Nancy and Nat who we haven’t seen in 10+ years. I also finally get to meet my nephew Brandon for the first time.

What an adventure.

Low point of the year: Unemployment

Yes, I was all gung-ho about my new adventures. Then I was defeated by the reality of it. I had some days when all the rejection emails and resumes that disappear into the black hole that is the Orange County job market really got me. There were days when I felt useless and stupid. And there were days when I thought I should just grab a cup and go panhandle.

I’ve gotten used to a set schedule and a steady paycheck for these past 4 months. Going back to not working is going to be interesting all over again.

Holiday of the Year: Halloween…again

That’s it. I’m retiring this category since a) Halloween is my favorite holiday, and b) it’s ALWAYS awesome.

This year I didn’t have quite the same number of costume change as last year. But I still had quite a bit. A 1980s prom princess at work pre-Halloween. A Trojan Cat in the Hat for Halloween weekend tailgate. Myself aka the Devil for work on Halloween day and then the TARDIS in a tutu for Halloween party that evening.

That TARDIS outfit though, I’m quite proud of. Now you just have to find more occasions to rock out my blue tutu. Hee.

Song of the Year: Pumped Up Kicks, Foster the People

I know, I know. This song is now overplayed. However, you have to give it credit of the catchiness. I mean, I caught it a bit before it blew up and I still caught myself humming it out of the blue.

Movie of the Year: Captain America

As a Harry Potter fan, the final Potter movie should be on this list. However, it just wasn’t. Since I haven’t seen The Muppets just yet, Captain America will be crowned as my favorite this year.

Super hero movies has gone gray. You know, all the heroes have some kind of flaws or darkness they have to deal with. It’s so refreshing to see a TRUE super her with no baggage.

Surprise Movie of the Year: The Warrior’s Way

Brandon got this on rental. Horrendously cheesy with the story, the comic book CGI, and gratuitous violence. Everyone is over the top and stereotypical. The plot is predictable as hell too. But you know almost immediately that you can’t take any of it seriously. Even the actors don’t seem to be taking it seriously. Once you look at this as a live action comic book rooted in no reality of any kind, some kind of a fantastic voyage where everyone is in on the joke, you’ll totally enjoy it.

Book of the Year: Hunger Game trilogy

Oh, Entertainment Weekly Magazine. You influence me so. After having read so much about it, I decided to pick up the Hunger Game paperback for my New Zealand trip. I just couldn’t put it down. I ordered the box set the moment I came back and plowed through the rest in a record speed.

I mean, what’s not to like? Post apocalyptic, totalitarian world. A teenage girl fights for her family. Two boys who love her yet she doesn’t really know what she’s feeling.

If you can skip through the narratives about the food, the fashion, and how she was confused about her relationships–pretty much the parts Brandon couldn’t stand and therefore didn’t read past the first book–you have yourself one kick-ass sci-fi trilogy.

And next summer, the movie. Squee!

TV Show of the Year: American Horror Story

I actually didn’t want to continue watching after I watched the pilot. My skin was left crawling. Too intense of an hour of television. But curiosity–and free on demand–brought me back.

And boy am I back and so totally obsessed with this show now. (Glee? What’s that?)

That’s about it for 2011.

On March 31, my 6 years stint at the LA Non Profit came to an end. Things were changing at the office and the brunt of it fell on me, the only person in the office to get such brunt.

But then God/Universe/Karma/Fate/Circumstances opened a door for me to walk out on. After all of the signs through my MP3 player and other means, I wasn’t going to ignore this opportunity.

I seriously have followed the lyrics of Defying Gravity. I have closed my eyes and leaped.

Friends were coming to my rescue with new job leads and opportunities, and pep talks and great advice since the news was broken to me at the end of February.

A friend pointed this out to me: “The office may make you feel like you’ve done something wrong and you’re not good enough. But if other people jump to the chance to hire you like they’re doing now, it’s definitely not you.”

It’s a brave new world out there for me, y’all. And we will see what the future bring.

There has got to be a better way to learn to appreciate life than having 3 dead colleagues in 3 months.

I lost a former colleague in December. The guy retired in the summer and took up part time with another company. Friday he was at a conference as healthy as he could be. Sometime over the weekend he died in his sleep.

Brandon lost a coworker in January. The health nut and gym rat played tag football with friends the evening before. Sometime that night he had a massive heart attack and died in his home.

And I just lost another colleague last Friday. Former CEO was leading another group, still working in our offices 3 days a week. He would get a piece of chocolate from me everyday including Thursday. He went surfing Friday with friends like he usually did. He paddled over a wave but didn’t surf. Friends checked on him and found him unresponsive on the board.

With him, the loss feels a lot more profound that the one we lost in December.  I guess because we were still used to seeing him in the office once in a while. Like I said, dude was still here, in my office, and we talked chocolate and business. I got him some Abbazabbas for Christmas, for crying out loud, because we were talking about classic candies he couldn’t seem to find any more.

We still can’t believe he’s gone. God needs to stop stocking his Pearly Office with my coworkers!

In a way, I took comfort in the fact that the three deaths weren’t something of a horrific nature. Dying in your sleep is a death more people wish for and only some get to have. That, or die doing something you love with my coworker did.

And again, if it’s your time to go, it’s your time to go. Brandon’s coworker’s time was up too soon. Despite his health regimen, when his God wanted him home, there he went.

It could be any of us. Any moment. Poof, we’re dead. Just another reminder to get the most out of your life everyday and let your loved ones know how you feel.

A few weeks ago I was on the phone with my dad when we started talking about a living will. He went to a friend’s funeral service recently and was inspired. She was a Catholic and a doctor so she donated her body to the university hospital and held a memorial service. Guests were asked to NOT wear black, which thrown off a lot of guests, and the service was more of a party than a sad occasion. Now dad wants to donate his body too and he didn’t want the traditional Buddhist service of days of wake and praying.

In Thai cultures, we don’t talk about death. Our superstitious nature considers it a jinx. But my dad is too practical (and too much of a scientist) for that and so am I. So I asked him to create us a living will since my brothers wouldn’t know what to do with him, and I’m too far away to do anything in time. If there’s a directive, at least SOMEONE knows what to do until I get there. As for me, I already had mine plotted out and on the internet.

There was a somber moment there in our conversation that we both realized we might not be able to see each other again if either one of us just drop dead right now.

And that was also sobering.

“Your brothers are going throw my dead body in the trash, I know for sure,” my dad said, being all dramatic again.

“Nah, they wouldn’t,” I assured him. “First of all, Pueng the Maid will not let them. And secondly, it’d take a while for Ake to order an eco-friendly Burberry trash can to put your body in. I’ll be there before his order gets in so I’ll make sure your body gets donated the way you want. Okay?”

That got a laugh out of my dad on that one. And at least I have an idea of what he wants to do when time comes, and he knows what to do with me.

Life seriously is too short to not live it. And no amount of superstition should stop you from planning for your death.

I think I’ve gotten enough perspective for a while.

I lost a former colleague yesterday.

Well, I lost him once before when he retired last year. But this time it’s forever.

He was an older gentleman whom we all adored. For most of us, if not all of us, we have never been in this office without him.

He was youthful for his age and I chalked it up to his childlike wonder. His office was the first one I have seen since my dot com days to have toys in it. He particularly liked all variety of Elmos and those dancing and singing ones which annoyed his assistant to no end. I contributed a few pieces to her further misery and his delight. I would bring my Bouncing Tigger over to play with one of his Elmos once in a while and he would visit me whenever he had a new toy.

This time of year, if he was around, he would set up his Christmas train set over by his office and let it run all day. It was something we all were looking forward to all year.

On a daily basis, he would take a walk around the office to visit and joke around with everyone. Fart jokes were his forte. You’d know he’d been to which corner by the giggles and laughter you’d hear.

He was good natured even when he was in a bad mood. As a matter of fact, I never saw him with a frown. He might be frustrated at something or someone but he would turn it into humor and we laughed at those things and people he wasn’t happy about.

When he said he was retiring, there was a hole punched right through out morale. The office had been awfully somber and surprisingly stuffy without his antics.

As he packed up his office, he handed over a few toys to me to keep. When we heard the news of his passing yesterday, I spent some time holding his voice-activated Macarena gorilla.

We knew this day would come, given his age and health conditions. But we never thought it would be so sudden.

His health had increasingly become an issue in the past few years, but he was still very spry. He didn’t stay retired long before taking up a part time gig across town. Just last week people saw him at a meeting and he was as well as the day left the office for the last time. Last we heard, the doctors even gave him a clean bill of health.

He was supposed to meet his friend for lunch yesterday and never showed up. Since he lived alone, and the last time this happened he had broken an leg and laid hapless on the ground for hours, his friend called the fire department. They found his body.

The office was in a state of shock yesterday. I think we might still be. It’s one thing for this colleague to not be in the office but another to know that he is gone forever.

I’ve missed you for a while now, Jackalope. I’m just going to miss you a lot more.

RIP my friend.

First of, in this blog, soccer will be called by its proper name of football. Thank you.

You know, I’m not an all-the-time football fan. But every time the Olympics and the World Cup come around, I’m all into it all over again.

It’s a family tradition that I just can’t shake.

Having grown up with 2 older brothers, it’s not difficult to get roped into the spirit of all of the teams. Frankly, I remember watching enough games but I still don’t know who’s who. All I know is that since Sunday’s color is red in Thai tradition, my oldest brother claimed it Liverpool Day and we, including our cousins, were thereby demanded to wear red.

My dad, mom, and oldest brother were all educated in England. Naturally, as a household–except for mom who didn’t do sports–we always root for the English. My oldest brother’s team of choice after that is Germany for its well known precision. My older brother was all about Brazil. And then it’s everyone’s next favorite team, Italy. And these are the four teams I root for consistently every 4 years.

With all of that football love in my household, however I personally never own a football jersey. My mom wouldn’t let me have one because “girls don’t wear football jerseys”. I couldn’t even get the hand-me-down from my brothers! My brothers would wear matching jerseys when we went out for Sunday supper. Say, if it was French food we’re going for that evening, the boys would put on France jerseys and Italy for Italian food. This, obviously, illicit a lot of smiles. Not to be left out, I would try to dress myself to match the jerseys as well. I distinctly remember one outfit of white with accents of blue and red for the French jersey. Hey, I tried!

So, recently, I just bought myself an Italian jersey, albeit cheap and cheesy from Target and my Italian coworker’s snickering at it. One childhood depravity fulfilled. Woohoo!

This year, I have 2 coworkers who are even more into the World Cup as I am, the Italian and the Armenian. I’m sure there’s a joke in there somewhere of “An Italian, an Armenian, and a Thai walk into a bar…” And that’s what we’ve been doing 4 out of 5 days last week, running into Casey’s in Downtown LA at lunch to watch the game with a VERY enthusiastic crowd.

They’re my surrogate football brothers. And I love them for it.

Back in 2006, there was just me in the office with the occasional glances from other coworkers. But it wasn’t like this year.

Looking back further into my June/July 2006 posts to see what all I’ve said about the World Cup then, instead, I found my posts about my mom’s stroke. It was hard to read. There I was, mixing the tragedy of mom’s stroke with the World Cup and other daily life nonsense. I didn’t know then the horrible effect the stroke would have on my mom. She was in such great spirit. I also didn’t know then that the stroke would be what would eventually take her from us. Otherwise I wouldn’t have made such light of everything.

Funny how in hindsight you find all these odds and ends.

So, today, in celebration of my family and a little piece of memory of my mother, I’m going to go out there and enjoy my World Cup fever as I have been doing all week. With the distance between myself and my family nowadays, there are a few things that keep us together. World Cup watching being one of them.

When disaster strikes somewhere in the world, if the media and celebrity is on board especially, suddenly you see the surge of donations and fundraisers everywhere.

But what about the everyday? Where did that overflowing of generosity and kindness go?

Last week, my bus buddy was sitting with a bunch of other commuters waiting for the bus. There was no room to sit so I was standing around the corner. Once these folks got up to get on their bus, I moved in to sit down. There was a purse laying next to my bus buddy and I knew for sure that wasn’t hers.

I asked anyway, “That’s not your purse, is it?”

My bus buddy gasped. “Oh my gosh! I think that lady left her purse!”

A young Asian chick standing right by turned to me, “Oh yeah, she went on to that bus a second ago.”

My bus buddy and the Asian Chick kept looking at the purse and looked around. None of them wasn’t going to pick it up, it seemed.

So I did.

The Asian chick put her nose to her blackberry and started walking away. With much interest, my bus buddy watched me moving in to investigate the purse that laid right next to her.

It’s like watching “What would you do?” show on ABC. This is the show that fake a situation to see how people would react. At this juncture, it would’ve been a show where nobody was going to do anything.

I went through the purse, found a wallet with all kinds of IDs with no cash or credit card. There was a cellphone holder in the purse and fortunately no actual phone itself. So at least she has her phone. I found her insurance cards with her company on it. While on my bus, I looked up the company and and called. I told the receptionist I had recovered this lady’s wallet. She gave me the lady’s cell phone number and took mine.

My bus buddy signaled at me from the back of the bus to see if I actually made a connection with the purse owner, and I nodded.

The following morning, the purse lady called me and we met at Starbucks.

Apparently, she was on the phone talking to someone the entire time and didn’t realize one of her many bags had slipped off her shoulder, and soon after that her batteries went dead. That also explained why the neither the receptionist or I could get a hold of her that evening.

“Can I hug you?” she asked. LOL.

Now, of all of this ordeal, here’s what I don’t understand.

Both my bus buddy and the Asian chick were just staring at the purse. Neither one was going to pick it up. I mean, what if I wasn’t there? They were just going to leave it there?

I mean, the Asian chick definitely was going to leave it there since my bus buddy sits right next to it, I’m pretty sure. She was already started to move away after she told us, people who stood next to the purse, that she had seen the owner left to get on the bus.

Would you want someone to look on by if that was YOUR purse?

This isn’t even Haiti, folks. It’s somebody you stood next to not more than 5 minutes ago.

I’ve seen this similar thing happen before. Someone dropped something without knowing it. 10 people saw it and nobody was going to tell that person until one brave soul did. A person came running to the bus yelling for it, 10 people turned to look and heard him but did nothing. Once in a while, someone helped yell or wave or something but not always the case. On the crowded bus, nobody was getting up for anybody.

Seriously. Where did the human decency and kindness go these days? We’ve become such a “Me Me Me” society. I mean, even the giving to the disaster, for some people, it’s because it’s trendy at the time, not about they actually care.

Thailand had a celebrity-packed fundraiser for Haiti with drew quite and outrage. Um, helloooo there are Thai people who need help just as much and you’re sending your money where?

The giving and the kindness suddenly become a hip thing to do; not THE thing to do.

I’m sure there are still decent human beings out there who would always do the right thing and step up to help. I know at least 3 guys on my bus who would’ve given up their seats if the bus is full. I know that Brandon and Justin and his friends would step up to help those in need of help.

I mean, yesterday we were walking back to our car at the farmers market. A lady was loading stuff into the truck and there was a huge cart full of stuff on the floor next to her. Brandon gave me the keys to the car and he himself ran over to the lady to help her put all of that into the truck. Loads of people walked by doing nothing.

These little moments when a door is held open, a dropped item returned, or a seat given up that restores my faith in humanity. These moments are what keeping me from becoming a complete misanthrope. (Right now, I’m just a little bitter, heh.)

How about you? Have you seen any act of kindness recently? Or perhaps you’ve done something good yourself?

Today, the Universe decided that it hates people in my life.

1. Brandon tore his calf muscle

As he changed the oil on his car on Friday, Brandon discovered some coolant leakage. Upon further inspection by the auto shop, there are more than just that. We think the Anniversary accident knocked things loose. So, this morning, instead of waking up to drive me to my stop, the Mister decided to sleep in a little. I left my car 5 blocks down at my bus stop.

As he was walking over to the car, Brandon stepped off the curb and, according to his ER doctor, probably landed wrong on his heel. He heard something popped and he was in excruciating pain and couldn’t put his foot down. Being a Marine, dude sucked it up, hobbled across the 6 lanes to the other side, then his body went into a bit of shock and he sat down and passed out for a second. He then proceeded to hobble some more to the car, got in, calmly called me, and drove himself to the ER about 8 blocks down.

I received the call around 8:30. By the way, I’m in Downtown LA, 25 miles away, with no easy way to get home at that time. You see, my special commuter bus runs 3 times into town and twice out in the evening. If you need to get back any other time, you’ll have to take the Disneyland bus to Norwalk Station and either catch 2 more buses to get to my house or someone else have to come get you from the station.

Thank GOD for my former bus buddy Patty who retired about a month ago. I called her asked for a ride and she was available. Now, skip to read #2 and come back to read the rest of this.

Patty dropped me off at the ER and I waited for a good hour before Brandon hobbled out on crutches. Torn calf muscle, he said, and possible torn tendon but they don’t know that yet. And now we were off to his physician to get a referral to see a specialist and get an MRI or something else. His doctor gave him a shot of stuff and sent us home with vicodin.

2. Patty’s car died on the way to rescue me

After she hung up with me, my friend Patty went to finish her errands. Her car sputtered and died on the way home. Thank GOD her sister was home, so she drove over to sit with Patty’s car until AAA arrives so Patty could use her car to come get me.

3. A coworker had to go to the hospital

Meanwhile, as I ran from work to come home to take care of Brandon, a coworker apparently got ill enough to need to be rushed to the hospital.

4. Burbank DMV’s computer system went down

My boss took the morning off to go to her DMV appointment. System was down so no appointment could be kept. She pretty much wasted her morning.

5. The bus before my usual home bound bus broke down

Ana took the bus into town with me this morning. She usually takes a different bus or she would drive. However, she was getting on the earliest bus home. She waited, and waited, and started to get panicky about the bus home. As she found out later, when my usual bus showed up, the one she was waiting for has broken down. So she was on a super crowded bus back, behind her usual schedule.

I’m telling you. Cosmic Fuckery.

I’ve been pushing through work and juggling my social life through February. It seems I’m making new friends and reconnecting with old ones all the time. Weekends and evenings were no longer just the quiet moments but full of activities.

There have also been changes at my work. We have created a new department which roped my marketing team of 2 in with 2 other departments to pursue new directions. The new Boss Man is first a friend. Much like my relationship with my boss Nhien, because we are friends first, communications are open in both directions. It makes for very successful partnership I think, but yet also frustrating. You see, the new department is like new found toy. There are constantly “Oooh! I want to do THIS!” and “Yeah, let’s do THAT!” which tend to throw a wrench at both us and another department.

The perfect analogy for my current work situation, which my colleagues agreed on, is that the New Department is like a box of marbles spilled across the floor. Your day-to-day responsibility is like the door you’re trying to reach. You want to get to the door but you keep tripping on the marbles and falling down. You pick up the marble and put it back in the box and keep going toward the door but there will be another marble to trip you up. You eventually get to the door but you’re now all banged up. AND you’re late. Eventually, we will all learn to navigate the marbles and manage to pick them all up AND get to the door gracefully. In the meantime, put on your helmet, kids–it’s gonna be a bumpy ride.

Now, the Big Event just wrapped up without much of hitch on Wednesday. So a huge weight has been lifted but yet more are on the way. In all of this, I’m trying to squeeze in an hour here and there to study Italian. I’ve been neglecting homework because I thought I can totally do this without much help, but every week I fall further and further behind. I’m realizing the reason why I struggle so much with it is because I’m learning a third language on my second language.

To use Hugh Laurie’s analogy of going to the set of House being the only one who has to add an accent, it’s like going to a battle with a fish when everyone else has a sword. Almost everyone in class is a native English speaker. Most also speak Spanish even a little bit. I’m there with Thai being my native tongue and here I am learning a new language on my second language. My head is translating it front and back and left and right before I come to some conclusions. However, the benefit of my Thai tongue is that I can roll the R’s and sound the hard T’s better than anyone.

So here I am, trying to be a better student and put in some homework time. On top of that, I still have to find time to cook–which, sadly, I’ve been able to do strictly on the weekends, to keep the blogs up to date, and to wrap up my tax paperwork. Hey, at least the office is in order now. I just have to comb through the pre-sorted bill and reconcile everything.

Oh, and today I had Italian class in the morning, was supposed to be at a salsa workshop at noon, bake a cake, then off to a baby shower at 4 and a birthday dinner at 7. Thankfully the last 2 parties are at the same place.

At this level, I thought for sure I would go down with a cold after the Big Event. I ended up with massive allergies starting at the event. My stomach has been warring with me pretty much for 2 weeks. And then my back decided to throw a coup as I was having a nice relaxing dinner with Brandon.

It’s like my brain knows of the maddening schedule I have ahead of me today. So last night on behalf of the entire body, my back muscles decided to throw a tantrum and seized up.

So, no salsa today. And up until now, I’ve been laying flat on the couch, nursing the stout left in the bottle from making my chocolate Guinness cake with some Ibuprofen.

I don’t know if having been a better eater helps stemmed the physical meltdown I usually have after a stressful period of time. You know, my usual 24 hour of low fever and energy zap? Not happening this time. So the body just went for the most recent injury, my back, and uses THAT to punish me.

Well, I’m soldiering on anyway. At least tomorrow all I have to do is type up notes for Thrill the World and go to the meeting at 7 p.m.

But then there’s the farmers market I want to get to, dinner I want to make, and the paperwork…FUCKIN’ PAPERWORK!!!

*sigh*

So, how is your week/weekend?

Satisfaction level: Very high. I have to say I didn’t really miss meat at all. But then again, I was preparing for a work event we were putting on Wednesday morning, so a) I wasn’t really that hungry, and b) I didn’t really care if I was hungry–I didn’t have time to.

Thoughts: I was really surprised that I didn’t miss the meat. I mean, not even when I got to the hotel absolutely starved. I didn’t even think to break the deal and get a burger. As a matter of fact, I was looking forward to having some vegetarian pasta for dinner all day.

I think this whole eating meatless is growing on me. Being conscious of what I eat does change a lot of things. I’m sure I annoy people to no end with my new found path. But hey, I still succumb to factory-grown bacon and I still cook the commercially-farmed chicken because I can’t find any ethical one close by. A little bit is better than nothing at all.

Asian pears (thank GOD they are still in season because winter fruits are sooo boring!) from farmer’s market over Trader Joe’s blueberries from Chile. But…well…what the hell, I had a couple of the blueberries anyway. (Nhien brought it.)

I have been doing it for a week now, waking up at 5 a.m., shower, make a mug of tea, sit at my computer and work until 6:15, get dressed, leave at 6:30 to catch my bus.

This morning, instead of sitting until 6:15, I caught the 6:15 bus instead.

Do I even dare say it?

Guys, I might have been converted into an early bird.

I really do enjoy having all this quiet time in the morning. I mean, having the quiet time at night is nice too. But to wake up early without it being a torture, one must go to bed earlier. It does work quite well.

Walking to my car with “the Rising/Morning Star” (Dao Roong ดาวรุ่ง), what Thai people call Venus in the morning, shining bright with just a hint of sunrise behind it, that was ALMOST worth being an early bird for.

Deep down, I still want my warm bed.

And a bacon breakfast.
