FUBAR Thursday

5:09 p.m. – I arrive at the bus stop. I spot my fellow bus rider, Bus Girl. 5:11 p.m. – Bus Buddy comes out of his building. He waves at me and continues to chat with his coworker. 5:20 p.m. – Bus Buddy comes over to sit with me after his friend got on her bus. It’s past 5:15. The bus is indeed late. But it’s been late like this before. So we continue to chat. The MTA 460 Disneyland, the alternative bus to get us the closest to our area, comes and leaves. Bus Buddy starts to think that...

Champion of the World

Italy. You rock. Technically, your defense did not let up. Sure, Zidane got the penalty kick for what many of us thought was a bad call. But that wasn’t because you, the great wall of Napoli, failed. Materazzi’s header was indeed spectacular. But to tell you the truth, France did play better in the second half. Makeover madness

Okay. I’m talking girly stuff here. Very unusual for me so please don’t hurt yourself laughing. I went to my first Mary Kay party and was taught make up techniques by former Miss America. Not anywhere. 99% of the time. All I put on in the morning is moisturizer and SPF 30 lightly tinted sun block on...

Memorial Day ponderance

I often say I don’t have a stand about the War in Iraq. Because I don’t. I don’t care why our troops were sent over there. But I care that they are there now. I don’t care if PODUS is an idiot. I care that troops are risking their lives right now. Soldiers have been deployed already. They are getting shot at and blown up already. Standing around in the safety of US soil they protect and bitching about the war may help bringing them home sooner, but it’s not bringing them home right now or bringing anyone back from...

How government works (or not)

While we were all out and about today, Shane mentioned that he had to call into jury duty next week. I told him about how, a few years into college, I got my first jury duty summon. The thing is, I’m not a U.S. citizen. So, I made my call and checked the little box that said “I am not a U.S. citizen”. In a few days I received a letter to confirm that my service would not be required. And then, every couple of years, I’d get a summon again. And again, I’d go through the motion of telling...
