Now THIS is a weekend

We finally are having a real weekend over here! Totally making up for the madness that was the Auntie-filled Vegas weekend. First of all, the work gang didn’t get to Shabu Shabu at Little Tokyo as planned. Even arriving a good 15 minutes before the joint opens, we were already in the 2nd round of seating! Although, we did learn that if we were to take a late lunch at 1 p.m., our chance of actually getting to have shabu would be better than trying to arrive early. So we mozied over to T.O.T. Fantastic rice-and-noodle bowl place. Hip…yet so...

A Happy Oak

…is an Oak who is: Well fed with ridiculous amount of sushi and moderate amount of sake. Just back from a fantastic 3-hour girls night out with 3 fabulous girl friends, talking about life, work, food and cooking in/experiences. Knowing a local Japanese food joint that serves Tenzaru.  (Cold soba noodles and shrimp tempura).  Oh and the sushi is awesome here too. A proud team captain of her AIDS Walk Long Beach team who just gained a new member. Finally getting used to running.  On Tuesday, it was 1.7 miles in 25 minutes, alternating 3-minute brisk walk with 2-minute run....

Weekend of Good and Evil

– GOOD – Went out for 20-minute run/walk around the neighborhood on Saturday morning. It was summer out there. Windy though. I walked most of the trip, but I did get in some running. As I head out there with my music on, I tried to run at least 2 verses or 1 verse and a chorus which came out to about half a block per block. Not too bad. But I definitely feel like a wussy. Well, I *AM* a wussy. Who am I kidding! LOL. The Fried Chicken Experiment #4 turned out okay. Shane and Serena came by...

A Baker’s Woe

Not only a baker eats her own creation to test the quality, she also has to suffer the sugar rush that follows. Hence, it’s 11 p.m. I’m tired as hell. But I can’t go to sleep. What did I make? I intended to make these: But I didn’t factor in the fact that my heart shape cookie cutter was as big as the cupcake itself…so I couldn’t really cut the shape out without destroying the cake. Doh! So I ended up piping the raspberry preserve INTO the cupcakes then I dusted them with powdered sugar. They look like jelly donuts....

It’s a big, big world

Just got back from my optometrist. I am wearing my new astigmatism-corrected contact lenses. EVERYTHING looks bigger than before. I mean, my computer screen looks like font size 14 instead of 12. Well, fuck. The monitor itself even looks bigger than last night! The Vitamin Water bottles in the store, the same size as what I have at home, look huge. My judgment on dimension is a little off right now so I keep banging into things…which makes me feel like the things ARE bigger. Even myself looks bigger. Thicker, I should say. Good lord. I get to walk around...

Here’s what you’ve missed

Gosh. Only if I have all the time in the world! Then you would’ve known that in the past few weeks, I have… *UPDATE*…nearly fallen off my chair when Brandon called me. “You wouldn’t believe what just happened,” he said. As he was leaving to go to his side job client’s office 2 Fridays ago, he felt something flew by his head into the apartment. He thought, well damn, that’s a big moth. He looked back inside. For a brief moment, he made eye contact with a hummingbird who perched on our bookshelf for a second before flitting off around...
