Friendship is Magic

OakMonster - Otto and Bob's Big Boy

I was told a few times that my life would make for a great reality television show.  All the things I do are fascinating, they say.  I am quite certain someone else’s life is probably a hell of a lot more interesting than mine. But mine really ain’t that bad. But none of that fun stuff wouldn’t happen without my awesomely diverse group of friends I have come to know. I mean, what got me to write this post is this twitter conversation. Sure. You’d laugh at that little miscommunication about a recipe for the world’s hottest chile pepper.  But...

The Old West Avengers’ Day Out

OakMonster.com - Old West Avengers - S&W Photography

Team cosplay is FUN! At the beginning of the year, I had a thought. What would Lady Deadpool look like if she was in the Old West? Not like the present Lady Deadpool that get transported back in time, but if Wanda Wilson really did exists then. Obviously, it wasn’t be this. And so, the cosplay idea for the Wild West Wanda Wilson was born. Originally, I was going to debut Wanda at 2013 Comikaze since I had so much fun as Hulk Bunny last year. But then WonderCon announced that they were returning to Anaheim. Since I didn’t cosplay...

The Greatest Audition That Never Was

Steven Spielberg J.J. Abrams Joss Whedon Will Wheaton

I scrambled into a waiting room full of hopeful actors.  A friendly face looked up and waved me over to an empty seat next to him. “So, when are you going up?” I asked. “Soon,” he said. A few steps away, a glass door swung open.  A lady with a clipboard called out a name, and my friend stood up. “Break a leg!” I called up at him as he walked by. He gave me a thumbs-up as he crossed in front of the clipboard lady. The lady followed his line of sight to me, then looked down at her...

Five for Friday: Saving Lives, Running with Wings, and Breaking Up with Glee

OakMonster.com - Running with Wings

Five for Friday is a weekly (well, almost) series about the five new things I learned each week. (Hey, it’s still technically Friday! Sorry I’m late. Hee.) Actually, I should call this as Five for January. I haven’t written on of these since Christmas!  Well, having the year end recap, my 2013 goals, and Race on the Base updates did throw me for a loop.  We’ll just go with whatever I fancy for the past month, alright? I’ve Learned CPR Oh yes. I now have a CPR card. I just have to remember exactly how many compression (30) and how...

Five for Friday: Halloween 2012

OakMonster.com - Hockey Lock Out, Slave Leia, Captain Kirk

Since Halloween is my most favoritest holiday, it is appropriate to do a Five For Friday for it, don’t you think?  After all, there is ALWAYS something new to learn. Oh, and my album is on my Facebook right here. Double Check With Your Friends About Halloween Party When Halloween falls on a weekday, make sure to check with your friend who said he’s having a Halloween party exactly WHEN that is. For example, the invitation to a party on Friday before Halloween was clearly stated that was indeed on Friday, and Friday we were there. Saturday night, I came...

Five for Social Media Explorer

I know I’ve missed a few Five for Fridays. But I was actually super busy this Friday, taking mad notes and fighting to get wi-fi connection at Social Media Explorer’s EXPLORE event (#gotoexplore).  Southern California Media Association (formerly SoCal Blog Crush) invited a handful of us to attend this 2-day event, packed full of great speakers. The Double Trouble from TEDx OrangeCoast, Resa (@resamichelle) and I, were back together for another round of event coverage and harmless twitter-heckling. Annette (@dananner) turned our duo into a trio which I renamed the Giggle Gaggle.  But as the conference went on, the Gaggle’s...
