Wheel of Fortune

I told you about my multi-talented friend Note, the co-owner of Kinnaree Gourmet Thai and tarot card reader extraordinaire.  The latter, at least our group of friends think she is anyway. I promised Note that I would blog about my month-to-month prediction, so that as time ticks on, we can come back to see how accurate she really is. Before we get to that, what she said about my overall future gets me giggling. She said that although I am a team player, I work better alone. Same thing with my social life, great with friends and going out but...

Home At Last

Sawaddee from the Big Mango, y’all!  A nice, crisp, 75F “winter” Bangkok, no less.  I am enjoying the cool morning here. I arrived at dawn yesterday and what a day it was!  My brother and sister-in-law picked me up in his brand new BMW X5.  We had breakfast and I was left to myself all morning.  I unpacked, played some piano, and took a crack at the Nikki Heat novel before succumbing to sleep after lunch. My friend Note called to wake me up and off I went to her condo for a 4:30 p.m. pool party that didn’t happen....

Fighting the time

Friends, get ready for another long and slow season on the OakMonster blog. Thrill the World is here. And in full force.  (Oh hey, register with our LA team here.) I’m involved in many different levels this time, a lot more than I signed up for this year.  Well, you know, MJ went and died on us. That brought a lot more to the original “let’s take it easy this year” plan. I met with Amanda and Mahdroo and our new group of helpers last Wednesday.  This year is going to be awesome! Friday was the second anniversary of my...

Home Turf

Pim of Chez Pim texted me on a lazy Saturday mid-morning to ask if I wanted to meet up at Yai in Hollywood for lunch with her and some friends. Holy crap! Brandon and I have just rolled out of bed at 11 a.m. and we were to be in Hollywood by noon!?!  Pim assured us we’d make it a Thai time noon, so don’t worry if we were late.  And surprisingly, we arrived first. LOL. I Yelped Yai (or P’Yai for us Thais) as “THE mothership for Southern California Thais”.  Because it is.  I remembered when my mom and...

More than meet the eyes

The conversation when I ordered the cake for Brandon’s birthday party on Saturday went a little bit like this. Me: Hi, I’d like to order a cake for 15 people, please. Great Dane Baking Company: That’ll be a nine-inch cake.  Now what would you like on it? Me: Transformers. GD: Which one? Me: Optimus Prime. GD: The red and blue one? Me: Yep. GD: Okay, what’s the name [to go on the cake]? Me: Brandon. GD: How old is he? Me: Thirty seven… GD: Did you say seven? Me: No. Thirty. Seven. GD: Oh. Hm. Well, I guess we won’t...

Crash Test Oakley

I’m not safe on a bike. Never have been. But I insist on getting on the thing so I can spend time with Brandon.  Not to mention that it’s fun. Y’all remember my little blue Townie? After the stunts I pulled yesterday, I now have a name for the bike. Wallbait. You’ll see why here in a bit. Feeling ambitious on Sunday, I proposed that we rode from our place to the Alamitos Bay Farmers’ Market in Long Beach so I can pick up some fresh veggies.  After all, Brandon hooked up my cargo department so my little bucket won’t...
