Cook Bake Geek

It’s been a crazy weekend.  But super fun. AND productive. First of all, Brandon has FINALLY came out of the severe sinus infection that he had.  And with abundant energey fueled by cabin fever, he ran errands all over town for me on Friday. Because, you see, on Saturday, I threw a casual baby shower for a coworker and his girlfriend at my friend Amy’s house.  I made these surprisingly gorgeous and delicious pasta carbonara tartlets and fruity modification of the Italian Scroppino (lemon sorbet + prosecco + splash of vodka). After all of that, I came running home to...

New Chapter

On Saturday, I landed in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.  Now I have been the most eastern and southern of the U.S., adding one new state to the places I have been. On Sunday, my dear friend Irena got married to a fantastic guy. This morning, I got braces. This will change the way I shop for, eat and cook my food.  And obviously, that will affect how I blog on HmmFoodGood and Temple of Fresh & Easy as I will begin my hunt for soft/liquidy but nutritious food that is not too loaded with carbs and cream, ways to cook veggies...

Cakey Dilemma

I went to my local cupcake shop, Charmed Cupcakes, to buy some for the office birthday party tomorrow. “I would like to get 3 cupcakes, please. And can you please put them in one box?” “Actually, I can’t.” “Excuse me?” “I can’t put 3 cupcakes in one box. But I can do two of them in one and one of them by itself.” Odd. I’ve gotten cake in bigger boxes before. “Oh, I guess that’s okay. Now, I would like 4 more cupcakes, please.” “Do you want them in one box?” “Can you do that?” “Yes.” She put 4 cupcakes–eventually...

Running Ragged

Funniest quote of the weekend: We rode the Passport bus to the Grand Prix and back from Alamitos Bay.  Somewhere by the Bluff on our way back, we spotted a couple of ladies walking down the street holding hands. The woman in front of us turned her head completely, pointing at the couple, excitedly telling her friend, “Oh my GOD! Girl, look! Look!  Lesbians holding hands!” The friend wore a Lakers hat and she didn’t really turn her head to look back, so I could only assume she’s local. I live in a diverse existance and I am an openminded...

Unplugged

I was quite an interesting experiment last night. If  you’ve been following my tweet (as you should…@oakmonster), you would know that my office experienced an internet outtage yesterday afternoon. I found myself texting in my tweets about the outage. When I got home though, I decided to unplug altogether. I went to grab dinner with Brandon without my phone, and when I got back, I didn’t turn the computer back on at all. Then again, I was busy. I baked another one of Nigella’s Guinness Chocolate Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting per Brandon’s coworkers’ request.  In between that, I sat...

The Weary’s Quick Rest

St. Patty’s was a hit both at work and at home.  A great turn out at the office with everything from cookies to green deviled eggs.  9 people showed up at my doors for the Guinness Stew and a little bit of drinking.  The old gang hung out well with my new friends from Tweet Up, Annette @dananner and Wyatt @phraktyl. A lesson we learned?  Don’t ever give Phraklet, Phraktyl’s son, a Mountain Dew. Ever. Again.  LOL. I didn’t drink all that much at St. Patty’s.  Just an Irish Car Bomb I did with Annette and Wyatt and a couple...
