#Nerdvember: a Creative Challenge

I’ve learned about #Nerdvember from my network of geek girls about a week before Halloween.

#NERDVEMBER is a month-long contest we run over on Instagram. Participants are challenged to post a photo of themselves in a geek-themed outfit every single day of November. Outfits can range from something obviously geeky like wearing a Batman shirt or Star Wars leggings, or more vague, like an outfit inspired by a character through the use of a specific color palette.

Of course, I’m in.

But I’m not in it for the prize. I’m in it because I’m a geek.

And I need motivation to blog. (Sorry. But it’s true!)

The first few days was easy enough since it was the weekend. But I found myself on Monday morning struggling to put something together.

Instead of taking the easy way out and wear my standard uniform of geeky t-shirt and jeans everyday, I decided to issue myself a challenge of NOT wearing 2 geeky t-shirts in a row during the work week.

So let’s see how far we can go before I break. 😉

And now, to catch up.

Day 1: Jasmine/Aladdin

November 1 conveniently was Comikaze Expo where I was running around with my Disney Swap cosplay group as Jasmine/Aladdin. I hope they count my cosplay as one.

Day 2: Avengers

Post-Con bad-hair day easy way out. Avengers baseball hat and the brand new Captain America t-shirt I got from Comikaze.

Day 3: Fluttershy

This was the day I realized I was in deep doo-doo with the creative process. I had a schedule to keep that day, and the outfit I planned while I was in the shower completely did not work in real life.  Just as I was about to give up and reached for a t-shirt, I caught a glimpse of my underwear.

My ThinkGeek My Little Pony underwear.

Light bulb!

So, while I was running errands, I started an Evernote document and jotted down my ideas of what to try to put together next.

Day 4: Jayne Cobb

This outfit was going to be a little different, actually. I DO have a Jayne Cobb hoodie that I bought from ThinkGeek years ago, but I decided to save that for my other Firefly t-shirt. So I went with this one instead. Pretty cunning, don’t you think?  (My favorite fingerless gloves from Pandoras Kloset.)

We’ll just have to see if this is sustainable for the next 26 days INCLUDING Thanksgiving.

Do you think I can make it? Follow along!

This is all true! I’m all about participating – but I was sad to see how uncreative I am in the morning w/ my daily combo of nerd tee & jeans. This weekend, I’m going to actually put some thought into it and set aside time to figure out some outfits for the week! Plus, it should give me back about 10-15min in the morning in getting ready (as I type this at 430am) lol
