2016: Question Everything

There have been a lot of changes in my professional life in the past few months. One of the things that came with the change was a mantra: Question everything. Why did we do what we’ve always done? Did it produce result? Why are we keep doing it other than, just keep doing it? That got me thinking about my 10 goals I set every year. It’s like I set them and forget them. And I’ve been progressively worse about them every year too. Take a look at the 2015 recap here. I’m going to do it very brief since...

6-Month Check Up

The Fail Wailers - Fitzgerald's - Huntington Beach

Hey hey party people! It’s been a while, hasn’t it? Frankly, I haven’t blogged because I’m ashamed of the state of my blog. JUST LOOK AT IT!!! I know it’s been broken for quite sometime now and I have all the intentions to fix it. But I couldn’t bring myself to the computer. Part of that is also literal, as in my office is a total FEMA disaster zone with all the cosplay and arts and crafts stuff everywhere that getting my desk is like a Spartan Race. As a part of my reorganizing, I can’t really put much away...

10 Goals for 2015

OakMonster - Run for A Claus

What an interesting year 2014 has been. 2015 goals are less lofty but more personal. But first, a recap. 2014 Goals Recap: 5 out of 10 + Extra Credit Last year’s list was quite and ambitious one. Let’s start with all the fails, shall we? Fails I did not run 5K under 40 minutes at any of the 5 races I did this year. Nor did I finish reading “S”. I don’t even know where I’ve put the book at this point! I did not learn new phrases in Quenya or Klingon, which, ironically, is the opposite of the only...

OakMonster.com - Brandon and Oakley with the Endeavor

Let’s do a quick recap of 2013 first. 2013 Goals: kind of 7 out of 10 Find a job I love? Check! Oh my god, check! Don’t finish last at Race on the Base? Totally check. What I didn’t expect is that I would stick with running and continue to run 5K races around the neighborhood. This year’s Race on the Base is my one year anniversary race, and also my last race in a series of 3 to receive my first ever series medal! Be able to do 20 burpees in a row? I wouldn’t say in a CONTINUOUS...

10 Goals for 2013

OakMonster.com - Win with Oakley

Brandon suggested that I shouldn’t call these “Goals” but “Aspirations” since they’re more of a guideline of what I want to accomplish rather than what I’m driven to achieve. Well, lack of the drive is my fault. Not the goals. However, having setting up goals every year, I have an average of 50% success rate and many of those successes become a part of my regular ritual.  For examples, Veggie Tuesday is now permanent, also made easier with being more meatless than almost vegan.  Reading through the magazines as they come in is also now a habit.  So, it’s not...

10 Goals for 2012

OakMonster.com - Oakley Boren

2011. The year of changes. So much so that I pretty much forgot that I had set goals for the year. Someone asks why I set goals. Well, I’m trying to set a habit-forming goals instead of something I know I can’t attain.  Whatever I did well, I’ll keep up with for the years to come. Goal #10 has been a growing list, and I would like to keep it growing each year. Now, let’s first look at what a failure I have been in 2011 before we move on to set goals for 2012. 2011 Recap: 5 out of...
