On our way

So, the PAD is leaving the airports.  (Thanks Bangkok Pundit for all the info you’ve given me these 2 weeks!) The day after the “Smiling Moon”, a sign of good things to come. Hours after I have been told that we are confirmed for Monday to leave Bangkok, hell or high water, from U-tapao or Suvarnabhumi. Yes, kids.  We are finally going home!  That doesn’t mean I will stop blogging about the situation.  It might not be live like the past few days but i will drop in as much of the news that I can going forward. However, as...

It’s going

I woke up on my birthday morning to Bond, James Bond.  First thing on the agenda this morning, even before getting any food into our systems, Brandon and I headed out to the theater for Quantum of Solace. My car, and everything else, was covered in ashes.  Norther sky is but orange brown smoke while it’s bright blue out South, toward the beaches.  As we headed up the 605 North, it felt like we were driving INTO the fire. We weren’t close to action, but we just got literally only a sniff of what folks are experiencing out there. The...

Thai-ed up and Twisted

Thai massage. Oh, it hurts sooooo good. Via my work, Nhien and I got a complimentary Thai massage at The Raven Spa in Silver Lake about a month ago.  The therapists are all Thai, and the atmosphere was such that at some point I felt really transported.  For a moment, I thought I was back home.  It was that good.  We liked the place so much that when the opportunity arose, I brought my girls back for more. After having missed somebody’s birthday recently, my girls and I have agreed to treat ourselves to one of these girls spa day...

South Coast and Kimchi

You know you’re in Southern California when your breakfast is leftover lamb biryani and goat curry, your lunch is chopped salad and roasted tomato soup, and your dinner is pork belly over piles of kimchi at a Korean barbecue. Add some good friends into the mix, and what you have is one great Sunday. Well, except for the fact that Brandon is not here and the kimchi heartburn is creeping up. I had a lunch date with Nora at South Coast Plaza today to get all the news from her recent trip to Australia and New Zealand, and to view...

Love. Labor. Loss.

LOVE On Saturday, two major events for me that set the happy tone for the rest of the long weekend. First, the Trojans kicked Virginia’s butt up and down the field 52-7 which put the team in #1 spot in AP poll.  Watching Mark Sanchez, our new quarterback, TACKLED some dude to block for his running back (tailback?) was just awesome. Still high on the Trojan spirit, Brandon and I flit up to town for the wedding of our friend Elan to her beau Chris.  The wedding took place at the beautiful hidden gem of Wilshire Ebell.  Elan actually used...

Party Central

What a whirlwind week I’m having so far! This weekend was shock full of activities with the bike shopping and the bike riding. Work has been just nuts.  I just now realized that I have to do 3 Christmas duties BEFORE the end of October.  And then all the stuff I postponed because of the conference last month started to pile up.  I was knee deep in stuff to do.  And then there’s this business of Celeste leaving the company. Did I mention that she’s leaving my office for a greener pasture?  Well, she is.  I am extremely happy for...
