Had to have high, high hopes for a living
Didn’t know how but I always had a feeling
I was gonna be that one in a million
Always had high, high hopes
When “High Hopes” by Panic! At the Disco came on the radio one morning on the way to work, I thought, wow, that song is definitely going on my workout/running playlist. It’s such a positive song. I even added it to my public “Office Radio” playlist which my office actually plays through the PA to motivate my coworkers.
Well, former office.
I didn’t know at the time that about a week later, this song will become my anthem as I left my dream job at Frieda’s Specialty Produce in pursuit of my “manifest destiny.”
Well, that’s how Panic! called it. But it really is more Ikigai I’m chasing after. (Pronounced “eye-ki-guy”.)
Ikigai is a Japanese concept, roughly translated to “reason for being.” Working at Frieda’s has been pretty close to, if not completely in, Ikigai for these past five years for me.
But things change. Times change. I change.
So, I’m out to find my new Ikigai. What that is, I’m not sure yet. It’s a little scary and daunting. But I have great, supportive friends and they are definitely my safety net as I performed this incredible leap.
This ronin in on a mission. Stick around to see how my story unfolds.
Meanwhile, have high, high hopes!
