Repost: Stuck in Bangkok – Best and Worst

Repost from my Thai-Blogs.com entry. We finally are leaving Thailand tomorrow. Out of Suvarnabhumi, to my father’s relief. Getting up at 4 a.m. to go to Bitec check-in point for U-tapao would be torturous for the poor man. My planned 2-week vacation was extended to 19 days of bliss laced with frustration, thanks to the airport closures. However, it’s always good to be home. Things are always changing around here in the Land of Smiles. For better or worse. So here’s my best/worst list of my recent trip home. Best: Extended vacation. Worst: Brandon’s extra week of time off he...

Resting up

And today, we rested. I partied two nights in a row.  And lost my voice.  It didn’t help that I’ve been coughing since I got back from Phuket a week ago of all the sinus drainage.  I sound like Demi Moore right now.  Hahah. Monday with my family at my brother’s girlfriend’s bar and restaurant.  3 tables for 5 people was filled end to end with food from glass noodles Pad Thai wrapped in thin omelet, fried nuggets of pork “Larb”, to giant Lobster Thermidor the Girlfriend whipped up herself as a promise to my brother. Then there was the...

Not your typical Thanksgiving post

Yesterday we had lunch with my mom’s group of friends aka The Aunties.  They treated us to German brats and sausages and potatoes and saurkraut and pork legs at the Goethe Institute.  It was always a pleasure to hang out with them. All the jetting around got me a little bit sick.  Having felt very poorly last night, we canceled our river boat dinner cruise so I would be well enough for this morning’s road trip. Brandon and I started the day with the tour of the Damnuen Saduak Floating Market.  Having not eaten much of anything the night before,...

Of Bliss…and being pissed off

*Warning! This entry contains Thai political rant at the very end.* Here we are, another airport, another day.  It’s Phuket International now, waiting to head  back home to Bangkok from a 3-day of bliss. So far it’s been a whirlwind trip.  We landed in Bangkok on Saturday around 11:30.  Later that evening, I went to Homecoming at my school, Mater Dei Institute.  I met my friends at the gate while I was waiting for Tong.  We went in, and all was good.  Our class of 1995 had the most attendance and apparently we won an award for that.  I’m sure...

It’s going

I woke up on my birthday morning to Bond, James Bond.  First thing on the agenda this morning, even before getting any food into our systems, Brandon and I headed out to the theater for Quantum of Solace. My car, and everything else, was covered in ashes.  Norther sky is but orange brown smoke while it’s bright blue out South, toward the beaches.  As we headed up the 605 North, it felt like we were driving INTO the fire. We weren’t close to action, but we just got literally only a sniff of what folks are experiencing out there. The...

Lights out

It was a productive day topped with office November birthday celebration.  I usually throw such parties but this one was taken off my hand.  Pat O. even surprised me with my own birthday cake!  The CEO who shares my birthday said that since I throw parties for everyone all year long, it is only fitting that I get my own cake this year.  🙂 A combination of crazy Big Gala work day and sugar high/lows, I needed a decompression session.  So our little gang stopped at Suede before heading home. I made the wrong bet and chanced the 110 instead...
