Five for Friday: Running, Camping, Drinking, and Chris Hardwick Envying

OakMonster.com - Run Disney

Five for Friday is a weekly series (and at the rate I’m blogging…pretty much the only posts these days it seems, LOL) about the five new things I learned each week. It could be anything from a new recipe, new skills, or a new life lesson. Fireball Whiskey When I go to USC football games, I hang out at Psychogate, the official tailgate of Roy “USC Psycho” with whom I’ve been friends since college. While Jagermeister has been the alcohol of choice, this week, we were introduced to Fireball Whiskey. I feel like calling this sweet cinnamon awesomeness a whiskey...

Don’t Cry Over Un-spilled Blood

OakMonster.com - Almost a first-time blood donor

Today is the 5th anniversary of my mom’s passing.  And I have planned on donating blood in her honor.  This would’ve been my first time ever donating blood. That’s right. Would’ve been. Read on. My older brother has been giving blood for years on his birthday and either on mom’s anniversary and/or her birthday.  Here in the U.S., you have to weigh 110 lbs./50 kg. to be able to give blood among many other eligibility requirements.  For 19 years, I never weigh enough. Finally, I’m fat enough to qualify! I checked the Red Cross website and read up on what...

It’s All Happening At Once

Today through Sunday, I will take my first step toward one of my bucket list item. I’m volunteering at WonderCon, a pop culture/comic convention that usually takes place in San Francisco, but it’s just down the way in Anaheim this year.  Pam got me involved in this because a) I’ve NEVER been to a Con of any kind, and b) If I do well, I might get a chance to go to volunteer at San Diego Comic Con in July. SDCC is on my bucket list. Nerd Mecca must be experienced once before I die. Some people have Paris and...

Enjoy the Little Things

At 4 a.m. this morning, I was jolted out of sleep by a bout of vertigo. Oh yeah. It’s back. Just a little over a week of having been on my feet again. #FML. Seriously. Fortunately, this one doesn’t seem to have the strength of the original version, but it was enough to nauseate me already.  I woke Brandon up, poor thing, to fetch me an anti-nausea pill. He asked if I want to do the Epley maneuver right away. I chose to sleep comfortably for a few more hours then do it when I’m actually ready to get up....

My Week in Vertigo

Hello, hello. I’m a place called Vertigo… Bono clearly has never had vertigo.  He has never been to where the entire world spins in front of your eyes and the floor shifts beneath your feet, so much so that you were thrown to the floor from how disoriented you are. Where you are so dizzy your stomach makes like a snitch and gives up everything it has. It was a horrible place to be.  And that was where I found myself on Saturday night. The day started out just like any other busy Saturdays. Early afternoon quick visit to a...

Cowboy Take Me Away

Next Friday, Brandon and I will have been married for 10 years. Instead of celebrating on our actual anniversary weekend, we had to do it this past weekend instead.  Brandon’s certification course begins next Saturday. A while back, I bought a Groupon for a horseback riding and wine tasting package with Wine Country Trails by Horseback at Wilson Creek Winery. Now that Brandon is learning to enjoy wine, we thought we’d make a weekend in Temecula out of it. Besides, with my current employment situation, we can’t quite get ourselves to Hawaii like we wanted to do originally. We spent...
