Cowboy Take Me Away

Next Friday, Brandon and I will have been married for 10 years. Instead of celebrating on our actual anniversary weekend, we had to do it this past weekend instead.  Brandon’s certification course begins next Saturday. A while back, I bought a Groupon for a horseback riding and wine tasting package with Wine Country Trails by Horseback at Wilson Creek Winery. Now that Brandon is learning to enjoy wine, we thought we’d make a weekend in Temecula out of it. Besides,

Getting All “Doctor” Up

Final draft

Obviously, we’re a Halloween household. I usually start planning the costumes earlier in the year. Some year, we don’t have to do too much. Some year, we’d go all out. This year, I am determined to go as the TARDIS incarnated as a cute blue dress [ETA] a blue velvet corset and a tutu with a hat that glows.  Here are my digital “drafts”, a quick and crude Photoshop image of what my outfit could/would look like. But out from

iPodyssey returns

ipodyssey

Last year, I participated in the Wise Guys Events first-ever iPodyssey, an Mp3 flash mob event.  An offshoot of New York City’s famous Improv Everywhere‘s MP3 experiment. I’m going to do it again this year! Many of the folks I know from Thrill the World and GuerilLA Improv were there too.  Well, some of us from GLA were already at the rehearsal for the flash mob musical so we just headed down the freeway from there. It was so much fun!

Geek Girl Power…and the annoying aftermath

Darth and Daughter

I don’t know why only recently did people suddenly pay attention to geek girls. LA Times did a whole story about it the other day based on the nerdy ladies of television shows.  And now College Humor came out with this video, which is, by the way, pretty much the how my small talk at mixers or networking events usually goes… I’m not quite as geeky as this chick in the video here, mind you. I have girl friends who

Someone save my life tonight: Basic CERT Training

Firefighting

I was introduced to Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training program originally at the mandatory safety overview for the Downtown LA high rise I was working at.  Essentially, they’ll teach you to be a trained individual to help your neighbors out in case of emergency where the first responders would not get to you right away.  If you want to do more, later on you can take more classes and join the volunteer force. The basic 24-hour course was being

A Matter of Faith

Shepherd Book's quote

When I talk about belief, why do you always assume I’m talking about God? – Shepherd Book, Serenity. That there was a quote that launched a thousand thoughts over this Memorial Day weekend. It started on Thursday night when I watched Serenity with some friends.  As a Browncoat—fan of Joss Whedon’s Firefly series and the subsequent movie–I’ve watched this movie several times. At the core of it was about faith, not in a religious way, but a belief in something

Coming Soon: New Zealand Adventure

April 13th, 2011 Comments Off

We’re winding down our New Zealand vacation with my dad. He leaves Thursday afternoon and we leave Friday. So far over 1,000 photos have been taken. I have yet to calculate how many kilometers/miles and hours Brandon had driven in the 5 days we spent in South Island…on the opposite side of the road from the U.S., no less. We had killed absolutely no possums (different than what we have in North America) and rabbits where are both non-native pests

Feeling Super

March 2nd, 2011 1 Comment

Brandon said the bunny looks so cute all puffed up.  I saw something else. So, I made this for him. I’m hoping the image will inspire me to feel super and, better yet, *BE* super.

All in the name

February 25th, 2011 Comments Off

As many of you know, I am horrible with names.  Shake my hand right now and unless I actually get to talking to you, I won’t remember your name when you walk away.  I will however remember what you look like.  This makes me a horrible networker. May be I’m compensating for not remembering people’s names by naming inanimate objects in my possession instead. I’m not particularly good at naming things but I go for it anyway.  My mom’s BFF

Keep Calm and Carry On

Wise word from UK government during WWII.  The propaganda poster that went missing since which had just resurfaced back in 2000.  Nowadays, you see it in all shapes and forms.  Like these guys. Cupcake: The Lobster Pot / Rock: The Poster List I have a copy printed out with a smiley face wearing the crown, and posted in my office to look at.  Because, just like everyone else, some days you need a little bit of a mantra to get
