All my bags are packed

Costa Rica, here I am! Yep. My BFF Nora and I are heading down to the beautiful northwestern beaches of Guanacaste region of Costa Rica for my friends’ wedding.  The traveling Couch Monkey will finally get to be among his capuchin buddies! I just realized that this is my first trip abroad in 17 years. Well, you know, having come over to the U.S. being my last “foreign” trip.  Since then, I have only gone home and nowhere else outside the U.S. Okay. I did set foot in Canada for like 15 minutes in college when we got turned around...

Meatless Tuesday: Week 16: The Last Post

No, I did NOT give up on Meatless Tuesday.  However, I’m giving up on blogging about it. Guys, the Meatless Tuesday experiment has stuck.  16 weeks I haven’t wavered and my resolution is as strong as before.  It’s just that now that Meatless Tuesday has become an established routine, writing about it seems, well, tedious.  And absolutely unimportant. I have been tempted to drop it and go for meat a couple of times when I was stressed out.  Sure, I wussed out and got nachos or something as bad for me on those days, but I managed to not eat...

Separated At Birth: TV Edition

Anna of V (Morena Baccarin) : Dr. Sheldon Cooper of Big Bang Theory (Jim Parsons). Seriously. Watch V and see if at a certain angle and a certain expression of Anna doesn’t remind you of Sheldon! Timothy Olyphant (Justified) : Michael Weatherly (NCIS) : Chris Pine (Star Trek…okay not TV, but movie based on TV show). They could play brothers. Hot, HOT band of brothers with awesome hair....

Woodstock for your brain

Technology. Entertainment. Design.  = TED. Ideas worth spreading = Spirit of TED. TED conference is where the brightest minds came together to share their ideas.  I’ve heard of the event last year for the first time, and have been wanting to attend ever since. And I finally got to do it this past week at TEDxUSC, an independently organized event hosted by USC. In a small world, Amy G told me about her friend who were going to TED who turned out to know @FStop23.  As a matter of fact, dude was the one who told @Fstop23 about the conference,...

Meatless Tuesday at TEDxUSC: Week 15

Yes. I was at TEDxUSC. My mind was thoroughly blown. That’s another post unto itself so I’m not going into it here much. Breakfast: My Starbucks treat: decaf tall Americano with caramel sauce. Leftover plantano frito con frijoles y crema—fried plantains with beans and sour cream–from my Friday’s foray into Salvadorian cuisine. Ahhh…Sarita’s Pupusaria at the Grand Central Market! Lunch: Mendocino Farms’ Vegetarian BLT.  Yes, you read that right. It has vegetarian “bacon” and pepper jack cheese. And it was wonderful.  You read that right. This bacon fiend actually enjoyed the vegetarian “bacon”!  Then again, I was eating int the...

Not So Happy Songkran

It’s Thai New Year. Only a few days after the bloody result of the protest. I don’t think there’s enough water to wash the blood off our hands. (My family is safe, just FYI.  As a matter of fact, my dad has developed an unhealthy habit of taking an after-dinner evening stroll out to see the Reds’ activities in Radjprasong.  /headhand) Laws should be enforced. I said the same thing when the Yellow Shirts took over the airport. I say it here too for the Reds. I also believe that police and military have all the rights to protect themselves...
