6-Month Check Up

The Fail Wailers - Fitzgerald's - Huntington Beach

Hey hey party people! It’s been a while, hasn’t it? Frankly, I haven’t blogged because I’m ashamed of the state of my blog. JUST LOOK AT IT!!! I know it’s been broken for quite sometime now and I have all the intentions to fix it. But I couldn’t bring myself to the computer. Part of that is also literal, as in my office is a total FEMA disaster zone with all the cosplay and arts and crafts stuff everywhere that getting my desk is like a Spartan Race. As a part of my reorganizing, I can’t really put much away...

Day 25: Easy Like Sunday Morning

OakMonster.com - Reach for the sky

5 Thoughts It’s Sunday. Why am I up at 7 a.m. without the alarm for no reason at all? Oh right. I started coughing. So much for going to bed without Nyquil for the first time in a week. What a beautiful day outside and pleasant inside. It’s a great day to do whatever! And so we went mattress shopping. And it was virtually painless (except for when I cut my thumb on the laminated price sheet). We were in and out of the store in less than 30 minutes. Our new mattress arrived within a few hours. TV Binge...

Day 9: Wolverine Doesn’t Care About Calorie Counting

OakMonster.com - Justin Davidson Photography - Wolverine of the Bombshell Avengers

5 Thoughts ….well, screw the five thoughts for today. I have ONE major rant. Whoever said that keeping a food journal and tracking your calorie intake is good for your diet must really and truly hate food, and therefore hate life. I mean, look at me. I have NEVER felt guilty about my food choices or what I eat. For the past few days, I have been anxious and upset over the fact that I’ve exceeded the 1,550 calories per day limit MyFitnessPal had given me. Sure, I gave myself room to be able to go up to 1,773 as...

Counting my 2013 Blessings

OakMonster - Team Wicket and Animal

I know I usually do a 2013 recap here with all of my high points and low points of the year. 2013 has been a year of great things. You could say it might have been one of the best years of my life. So, instead of the usual recap, I’d like to actually, literally, count my blessings. Blessing #1: A Permanent Job Since I moved on from the last permanent job in 2011, I was freelancing for about 12 months of the 24 years of being unemployed.  My last temp assignment was to Frieda’s Specialty Produce.  It was supposed...

On the Universe & Being Shameless

OakMonster.com - Talk Like A Pirate Day - Krispy Kreme - Captain Bubbles

It was Talk Like A Pirate Day last week. Since I’ve learned about the holiday 7 years ago, I’ve transformed into Captain Bubbles and gone to work as such. Every year. Last year, I sailed to the township of Long Beach to plunder a pastry shopped called Krispy Kreme. Since I was rogue at the time, I brought the booty to my good friend Doctor Justin to take to work.  This year, Captain Bubbles, now employed, repeated the raid and came away with pastries for her shipmates. One of my coworkers asked, “Where did you rent your outfit from?” “These...

Friendship is Magic

OakMonster - Otto and Bob's Big Boy

I was told a few times that my life would make for a great reality television show.  All the things I do are fascinating, they say.  I am quite certain someone else’s life is probably a hell of a lot more interesting than mine. But mine really ain’t that bad. But none of that fun stuff wouldn’t happen without my awesomely diverse group of friends I have come to know. I mean, what got me to write this post is this twitter conversation. Sure. You’d laugh at that little miscommunication about a recipe for the world’s hottest chile pepper.  But...
