Everyday should be Memorial Day

As long as there are military men and women out there fighting for our freedom in a war or just doing their jobs somewhere peaceful, everyday should be Memorial Day. As LA Times reports, with the current war, it is such at Camp Pendleton. And just to shine another light on Memorial Day, we should all be thanking and remembering the FAMILIES of those out there VOLUNTEERING to fight for all of us. The wives and husbands holding down the fort while they are gone, not knowing if they would be coming back. The mothers and fathers watching their children...

New Boys in Town

Oh the new bunch of geek icons have made their ways into my celebrity crush fantasy land. First up. Zach Quinto. Okay I have to admit that originally, I didn’t think there was anything hot about him as Sylar on Heroes. But then as Heroes unfolds, his acting just makes him white hot.  Especially those times he was with Elle.  I mean, this scene here with her teaching him to use the electricity?  HOT!  Hotter than when they actually slept together. Seriously. Then again, the evil mastermind sociopath thing also works for me. And then, Zach as the emotionally restrained...

Phototastic Friday: Irena & Danny

Last weekend in Florida was amazing. The weather was just like Thailand which I totally adore.  A quick change from the dry California heat, I tell ya. We didn’t have a chance to adjust to the time change so we woke up too late each day to try to do anything.  It’s pretty much Coconut Grove and the wedding.  That was it.  No South Beach here. We ate at Green Street Cafe twice. And I would seriously eat there for every single meal. I mean, with a mojito like that? I would be dangerous to live close to that joint....

New Chapter

On Saturday, I landed in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.  Now I have been the most eastern and southern of the U.S., adding one new state to the places I have been. On Sunday, my dear friend Irena got married to a fantastic guy. This morning, I got braces. This will change the way I shop for, eat and cook my food.  And obviously, that will affect how I blog on HmmFoodGood and Temple of Fresh & Easy as I will begin my hunt for soft/liquidy but nutritious food that is not too loaded with carbs and cream, ways to cook veggies...

Oh Happy Day

Today wasn’t a happy one for me personally. First up, I had to get a couple of separators back in my teeth as they came right off on the first day of having them. My teeth have been sore all week so at this point, whatever. Then off to get my vision field test. I didn’t remember the last time my eyes were dilated, so I told my boss I’d come in after that was done. Yeah right! I had to hold my phone at arms length to try to call my boss. It was that bad. I could kind...

Motherless Day

“So what are you doing for Mother’s Day?” asked the perky medical assistant taking my vitals. “Nothing,” I said. “Nothing?” “Well, if my mom hasn’t passed away, she’d be in Thailand so that’s kind of hard. Besides, Thai Mother’s Day is in August, so…” “Oh my gosh. I’m so sorry.” “That’s okay.” It still feels a little funny telling some strangers that my mom has passed on. A lot of “where are your parents?” question when people find out I wasn’t from here. I usually go with “My dad and brothers are in Thailand still” and hope that THAT would...
